BMW issued a Service Bulletin in the mid ‘90’s recommending the installation of a reinforcement plate on the Z3 rear shock tower to prevent flex related noises. BMW part number 51 71 8 413 359 is the part in question. It is a yellow zinc coated stamped mild steel piece. The KMS part is precision laser cut from high quality stainless steel. No chance of it rusting if the shock mount’s gasket is not sealing correctly. The KMS 3 series Rear Shock Reinforcement Plate will fit all 3 series vehicle up to and including the E46 except convertibles. We suggest you make the reinforcement plate a component of rear shock mount replacement jobs to help keep your customer’s car in the best possible condition.
NOTE: In some applications, body welds may slightly interfere with fit. A small amount of grinding on the reinforcement plate may be required. This same note applies to the genuine BMW part.
